Our last half-day in Boltenhagen! Packing was a bit hectic, because we had more stuff than I thought we had with us. We decided to take a taxi to Grevesmuehlen when Imke and Hermann took off, and that gave us an extra hour or so for saying goodbye to the ocean. It was a gorgeous morning, sunny and as warm as it’s been the whole time we were here (first time for me in a skirt and a tank top), and it was nice to walk out to the pier one more time before sitting down to wait for the taxi. We had a delay on our first train and it seemed like we were maybe going to miss the entire trail of trains after that, but they were super nice and had our second train wait for us so we could get on. We got to Bremen from Schwerin with just a tiny bit of a delay, and Uschi picked us up from there to tour Bremen a little before going on to Bremerhaven. We had some Asian food and the new “Kultgetraenk” Kati insisted on for herself and for Kai–“bubble tea”–on the way from the station to the downtown area, and then looked at the City Hall and the Roland, the art deco Boettchergasse, which I especially love and where we watched pull-candy being made in a candy store. We also went through the Schnoorviertel with all its crooked little streets and alleyways, and my favorite restaurant (ambience / location wise: I don’t remember how the food tastes from way back: it’s the Katzen-Restaurant). The kids remembered this and that, including the little shop where Kai had bought his mini four-master in a bottle, and we had a good time. I have to say, though, that we were rather tired of the kids by the end of the day, since Kai was clearly unable to be quiet for even just a few minutes and would use a rather loud voice every time he spoke–very frustrating. So we were very happy when we got to Bremerhaven after an hour’s drive, and just puttered a bit before going to bed in a location a bit more distant from the kids (divided from them by a bathroom and a whole hallway).
