Another long driving day, but with a wonderful interruption for lunch and the ocean at the end.
We got an early start and drove all morning to meet an old friend of Antje’s from Houston, Gundi, in Livingston, TX. Mark has never met any of my Houston friends, and I had not seen her in over 25 years (we left Houston when Kati was just a baby, in 1996). We had a lovely, simple Mexican lunch at Patron Grill and caught up–as much as you can in an hour or so!
Then we took the back roads to get to Galveston without competing with the Friday afternoon commuter traffic in Houston, and got to our friends Polly and Steve still before 5 pm. I hadn’t seen them in about 20 years. So it was another joyous reunion. We sat on their front porch in a refreshingly stiff breeze and talked (they had never met Mark, so there was extra catching up to do). Mark and I went for our first walk at the ocean (they only live six blocks from the beach), and then had a lovely dinner with chicken and roast vegetables on their porch. We were pretty tired, so we did not stay up late.
