No photos today! We left our sweet Airbnb in Berlin after breakfast, lunch sandwiches and suitcases in tow, and were at the train station before 10 am. The 4-hour trip from Hamburg to Berlin went almost without a hitch, even though Northern Germany had a scorcher today, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s. But no train was overly hot, and only our very last train was about 20 minutes late, and you could hear in the tone of the voices of the announcers that they were very annoyed with having to tell us about yet another delay. The biggest challenge was actually the very last leg, the bus ride to Andrea and Peter’s house in a bus without air conditioning. It must have been 105 degrees in there, and those 9 minutes were very very long and extremely sweaty! Germany is not equipped for heat waves.
But then we were “home,” and we had a lot of water (even with ice!), unpacked (yet again), and showed Andrea and Peter some of our photos. Later on, it was just about cool enough to walk to a nearby Anatolian restaurant, with outdoor seating in the shade, and had some simply but yummy food (falafel, a wrap with sauteed beef, and a burger). On the way home, Peter and Andrea veered off to do some shopping, and Mark and I went for a little walk through the park just to get a little movement. Later, the temperatures dropped some more, thankfully, with a downpour and some rain, and the apartment cooled down. Tomorrow, we should have nice cool day and be up for more Hamburg explorations!
